Anglesey Abbey, Gardens & Lode Mill embarked upon an exciting and innovative project for 2006. The project will set a new benchmark for the way the Trust can use new media in the interpretation of its visitor attractions.
We are now able to offer downloadable digital media files from a variety of locations on and off site via the World Wide Web. The files can be installed on any MP3 player to provide visitors with a ‘create your own’ guided tour of the property. The pilot consists of over 30 minutes of audio: a full property introduction and tours of three showrooms.
The project is a way to raise the bar for interpretation at N.T properties. The ‘pilot’ provides visitors with the opportunity to download a variety of special interest and commentary tours, coupled with images. It is a way of sharing the wonders of the National Trust on the World Wide Web, engaging with a global audience. Voiced by Tim Wonnacott of BBC Antiques Roadshow fame, the audio tours are of the highest quality and wonderfully evocative of the Anglesey ‘spirit’. The files can be downloaded to any personal media player which can then add depth to a day out at the property or one may simply listen ‘at home’.
The project will play a vital role in providing ‘access for all’ and serve as a role model for heritage organisations in this new digital era.
