After walking past the Dell, an open area of mown grass with symmetrical beds appears on your right.
This is The Narcissus Garden.
Originally this area consisted of the statue of Narcissus gazing at his reflection in the pool with a surrounding of very large Elm trees.
Since the onset of Dutch elm disease, the trees have had to be felled and a new garden designed.
Using reflection as a theme, the garden was designed by John Sales.
Two beds either side of the pool, were planted using yellow or white flowering plants, or those with silvery foliage.
In the lawn are two pairs of trees, the Golden Rain Tree, Koelreutia paniculata, and the Eastern thorn, Crataegus orientalis.
A long bed opposite the pool is mainly planted with Philadelphus plants as a screen from Jubilee Avenue.
