The Jubilee Avenue

Originally a cart track, which led to the farm, this area was purely functional. Cattle used to be herded along the hedged track for milking. As the farm disappeared from this area, the hedges were allowed to grow up to form mature Elm trees, eventually creating a deeply shaded avenue.

Once again disease caused the felling of the Elms (part of approximately 4000 lost in total from the estate), allowing replanting of Hornbeam in 1977, and the renaming to Jubilee Avenue to commemorate the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth 2.
