The Fairhaven Centenary Walk

Returning to the Holm Oak Avenue, if you walk to the Huntsman statue, there is a gated entrance to the Fairhaven Centenary Walk.

It was created to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the first Lord Fairhaven in 1996. It has been designed as a serpentine walk, specifically on a theme of winter colour, which includes plants that have good bark, stems, flowers or scents throughout the winter months. It was designed by the head gardener Richard Ayres and the then garden advisor John Sales, and is still being added to and adjusted as the growth rates of some plants may have been underestimated.

This walk winds its way back over about half a mile and returns you to the Visitor Centre, Restaurant, and car park.

I hope you have enjoyed this virtual walk, and feel inspired to do it for real one day.
