The Riverside Walk and Cyclamen Path

The Riverside Walk starts as a bark chipped path leading through trees and shrubs, behind the Herbaceous Border and along the bank of the river Lode. Just past the other entrance to the Herbaceous Border, the path dips into a less open area where, from September onwards, the ground is a carpet of pink Cyclamen with a delightful perfume on warm, still days.

The collection of Cyclamen was part of a larger consignment, illegally collected in Turkey, and subsequently impounded by H.M Customs. The corms were divided between Kew Botanic Gardens and Anglesey Abbey and flower prolifically here every year.

At the junction of the paths, you have a choice of route. You can follow the bark path right and around towards the Quarry Pool, or you can take the gravelled path along the river towards the Mill.
