The Snowdrops
at Anglesey Abbey Gardens

<< Previous

About seven years ago a really exciting find was made.

A small double snowdrop was discovered with inner petals as near perfect as could be. This snowdrop has been named after the present Lord Fairhaven and is called Galanthus 'Ailwyn'.

Galanthus 'Ailwyn'

Galanthophiles (that is people who have a passion for snowdrops) have got to hear about the collection and swaps have been made to build up the collection at Anglesey Abbey - rather like stamp collecting!

We continue to increase the collection and recently a new addition has been found growing here in a bed of Galanthus reginae-olgae. This new snowdrop does not conform to the traditional way snowdrops are supposed to and holds its head up like a tulip, only much smaller. This snowdrop is to be called Galanthus reginae-olgae 'Miss Behaving'.

So when February comes and the old saying comes out again "February, fill the dyke, with what thou dost like" we like to show off our snowdrop collection!
